Don’t Buy Water at the Airport!

Also: How to do "everything" + cleaning tips from Marie Kondo

Hello there! It’s Idle Impact’s 5th day and I’m so glad to have started this newsletter because I’ve been learning so much, not to mention keeping myself disciplined 😊.

OK enough about me, let’s get started right away with some handy travel tips!

Don’t Buy Water at the Airport!

It’s not that airport water is bad but these tips could save you money - and the earth. Instead of buying water at the airport, try these alternatives:

Option 1: The obvious one is to bring an empty water bottle and fill it up inside, granted the airport has water machines.

Option 2: You can freeze your water bottle the night before flying and you should be able to pass security with no problem!

Option 3: If you want to save extra space, consider buying a collapsible water bottle. There are various models to choose from including the Platypus plastic pouch or Stojo folding silicone cups.

Hope these tips are helpful. Do you have any other great travel tips? Let me know!

HABITS | MINDSET | PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

“How you do one thing is how you do everything”

I really love this maxim and with time, I’ve realized more and more how true it is.

Simply put, this phrase means how you perform one specific task or how you handle one part of your life will transfer to ALL other parts of your life.

A popular example is making your bed in the morning. If you usually cut corners and leave a messy bed or don’t even make your bed at all, it’s quite possible you’re sloppy in other areas of life as well (no offense).

To learn from this, try to be consistent and do your best instead of cutting corners for even the seemingly small tasks in life.

This applies to both actions and attitudes. For example, your attitude towards people and tasks at home will affect your attitude at work, and vice versa.

I recommend you test this yourself: Choose one simple task or habit - such as washing the dishes or going for a morning jog - which you’ll commit to and give your all each time.

Pretty soon, you’ll see this discipline and diligence spreading to other areas of your life.

Just remember: How you do one thing is how you do everything.

Would you rather have a clean or cluttered house?

A Top Home-Cleaning Tip from Marie Kondo

Speaking of habits, you’re probably familiar with home-cleaning and tidying expert Marie Kondo, who even had her own Netflix show.

One of Marie’s top pieces of decluttering advice: Clean by categories instead of by room.

This means instead of going from kitchen to bathroom to living room and so on, start with clothes, then books, etc. This approach will help to make cleaning less overwhelming while saving time and space.

For instance, if you decide to organize your books - which could be scattered across your bedroom, living room, and elsewhere - you'll have a clearer understanding of your collection, helping you to sort through and organize more effectively.

As a bonus tip, Marie has suggested an optimal order for cleaning: Clothes > Books > Papers & Documents > Miscellaneous Items > and finally Mementos (Sentimental Items).

She also has a wonderful philosophy and process for something many including myself struggle with: how to get rid of things (you don’t need). We’ll go over that another time 😁.

Well, that’s it for today! I hope you can take action on some of the insights mentioned above.

Also, I'd love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, or any other tips you'd like to share at [email protected].

Wish you a happy day or evening ahead!
